(Updated) Hawash Charged with 'Conspiring to Provide Material Support'
Note: This post has been updated. Any and all updates appear at the end of the original post.
Well, breaking news time. Mike Hawash has been charged and the Portland Six becomes the Portland Seven:
Federal authorities charged a seventh person Monday with plotting to aid al-Qaida and Taliban forces fighting U.S. soldiers after the 2001 terrorist attacks.
Maher Hawash, 39, was charged with conspiracy to levy war and two counts of conspiring to provide material support to the two groups. He has been in custody since late March.
...
His friends speculated that he was arrested as agents look into a 2000 contribution of more than $10,000 he made to the Global Relief Foundation, an Islamic charity later investigated for possible financial links to terrorism.
As of yet, no details at the Free Mike Hawash website, nor any information as to how this does or does not affect the rally planned for tomorrow morning.
More via KGW, including a little more background on Hawash and his detention thus far. Also more via KATU and via KOIN.
Plus. KATU provides a link to the statement from the US Department of Justice.
Update
Read the press release. It includes the charge that Hawash physically flew to China on October 24, 2001, and joined with the other defendants in an attempt to enter Afghanistan and fight against US forces there.
Update
The Free Mike Hawash website has been updated, arguing that the charge is "guilt by association." They include a link to an affadavit by a JTTF agent, and state that Hawash has yet to go before the grand jury in the Portland Six case, and that there is still no indictment. In a message which just came over the Free Mike Hawash mailing list, it states that "a criminal complaint and arrest warrant were issued." Both this message and the website say that tomorrow's rally is still on.
Update
A position statement from the Free Mike Hawash people has been posted.

More on Mike Hawash on 28 Apr 2003
Bix is all over the news that Mike Hawash has finally been charged. Short-and-not-so-sweet: he's accused of flying to China and trying to enter Afghanistan from there to fight U.S. forces.
