This Friday: 'State of the City'

Coming up this Friday, April 4, is Vera Katz's "State of the City" via the City Club of Portland:

In the eleven years that Vera Katz has served as mayor of Portland, population has boomed and the city has grown. Many of the reasons Portland is consistently given high livability marks - the creation of the Eastbank Esplanade, the Chinese Classical Gardens, a nationally admired transportation system, including an expanded "Fareless Square," and an active fine arts community - have occurred during her tenure.
In the twelve months since Katz's "State of the City 2002" much more has changed. A war and "orange" alerts have necessitated new emergency preparedness and security regulations for the city. Severe budget cuts have created a need for creativity in funding city programs and services. And then of course, there’s Major League Baseball, the City's role in the future of Portland General Electric, and the fact that we are at war.
With the turmoil that surrounds us, what are the city's priorities? Where are we headed? Join us this Friday to hear the Mayor's vision for our economic and political future. This is a discussion you will not want to miss!

Reserved seating for this event is already sold out. But general seating or coffee/tea tickets will by available for $5 at the door. You do not need to be a City Club member to attend. Doors open for the "State of the City" at the Multnomah Althletic Club at 11:15 AM this Friday.
