Teachers Ratify Contract
Avoiding a continued contract crisis, Portland teachers have approved a new contract -- negotiated under the watchful eyes of the city an county early last week -- by an astonishing margin:
The approval rate was 92-percent of all ballots cast, union president Ann Nice said Monday night. Over 3,100 of the district's 3,300 bargaining unit teachers participated in the contract ratification vote.
Now it's up to the city and county to come through on their temporary tax hike to fulfill their end of the plan to save this school year, and the major immediate crisis will have been averted.
Unless, of course, the Legislature swoops in to steal our money.
