Communique's Catch-22
Hopefully, I'll structure this more as an observation than as a whine, but it's apparent that this site, and others like it I'm sure, are stuck between a rock and a hard place. It's been, especially during the last couple weeks, something of a fullish-time job. Of course, it's not a paying gig. Were I currently actually employed somewhere, it would be easier to have the resources to keep doing what I've been doing. But were I actually employed somewhere, I wouldn't have the time to cover protests, City Council sessions, and other public interest events.
Someday, someone will create a "new media journalism" fellowship or grant program, and be willing to take the chance that they might simply be throwing their money away, in order to give people the time and resources necessary to experiment with this form full-time and without worry.
Meanwhile, I'll just continue with my coffee and determine whether to cover today's South Park Blocks die-in or the Mt. Tabor peace walk. Ever onward and all that.

Hell, maybe then I could pay someone to make me official corporate-looking Portland Communique press credentials. Think they'd fool the eagle-eyed watchmen at City Hall?

Yeah, but democracy's worth it...
Hang in there.
