A Suddenly 60 Degree and Sunny Day

A middle-aged woman who was clearly not entirely mentally healthy just peered in through my storm door.

Upon walking to the door to see what she wanted, she explained that she was wondering if she could come in and look at my apartment, because she either used to live here, or almost lived here (it was hard to make out which one it was), and couldn't remember what the place looked like, only that she knows she liked it a lot.

I responded by telling her that it didn't make any sense to me, since it's not like she was going to be renting the place, since I'm living here. She repeated that she just liked the place and couldn't remember what it looked like, and she just wanted to come in and see my bedroom.

To which I could only say, "I'm not at all comfortable with that, sorry." And so she went away.

I would say that was the best response you could make. Strange days.

Careful. A friend of mine had a similar experience in NW Portland not too long ago. The next time she went away on a trip, the person who had visited her in this way began squatting in her apartment! True story.

Oh, well, that's just not reassuring in the least. I feel like I should put a sign on the door claiming that my apartment is wired with heat and motion detectors which alert me via cell phone of any activity. Well, okay, maybe I don't really feel that way. But it would be amusing.

I should just wire up a webcam to my front door's peep hole.

I'm guessing she's off her meds. since Measure 28 didn't pass.
