School Plan Coverage, The Day After
Today's Oregonian, of course, covers the results of the mass negotiating sessons at City Hall:
Mayor Vera Katz and Multnomah County Chairwoman Diane Linn brokered the deal, pressuring the school district to defer crackdowns on rising employee health care costs and teacher transfers.
The agreement still needs teacher ratification and multiple tax increases. If approved, it could extend the school year until mid-June through higher business taxes and two weeks of free labor from teachers, Katz said. It wasn't clear Tuesday night if all 24 days would be restored.
The paper also details how the next step is to make sure the tax plans have support and go forward.
