KBOO Indecency Fine Voided
Another short pointer. An indecency fine imposed upon KBOO by the Federal Communications Commission in 2001 has been voided by that agency:
At issue was a song titled "Your Revolution," in which New York poet Sarah Jones speaks out against the objectification of women in rap songs.
Throughout the song, Jones criticizes as misogynistic the often sexually explicit lyrics in rap songs. KBOO (90.7 FM) broadcast the song in October 1999. A former station volunteer, who had recorded the show, filed a complaint with the FCC.
The new decision spared KBOO from having to pony up a $7,000 penalty for exercising its First Amendment rights.
You can read the text of the order via the FCC website, in which they "find that The KBOO Foundation has demonstrated that the lyrics of 'Your Revolution,' measured by contemporary community standards, are not patently offensive and therefore not indecent."

For the record, I find it positively asinine that the Federal government is more concerned with "indecency" on the nations' airwaves than they are with media monopolization. In terms of threat level, the former comes nowhere even close to the latter.
