NE Alberta and 'Gentle Gentrification'

Speaking of the Mercury, last week NPR's Morning Edition broadcast a story on the transitions taking place in and around NE Alberta Street.

How is this related to the Mercury?

The story idea was suggested to NPR in an email by Phil Busse, managing editor of the Mercury, who is featured throughout the Morning Edition report -- including one segment in which Busse compares the unfolding story of what the story calls the "gentle gentrification" of NE Alberta to a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book.

Of course, as the correspondent points out towards the end of the piece, no one ever really thinks of themselves as the force of gentrification -- to them it's always the next people to move in that are the problem.
