Reservoir Group Makes 'Oregonian'

In advance of a publicity event to be held this Sunday, the local group which aims to restart the planning process revolving around the Mt. Tabor Reservoir snagged some coverage in today's Oregonian:

Friends of the Reservoirs wants the bureau to restart the decision-making process, this time allowing for a thorough public review of the $76 million project. The group is holding a "Hands Around the Reservoir" event Sunday, designed to pressure the City Council to re-think the project.
The event, with reservoir supporters linking hands around the park's lower reservoir on Southeast 60th Avenue, will help "show people what it is that's going to be taken away," said Charles Heying, an associate professor of urban studies at Portland State University and member of the citizens group.

One is never quite certain just how these sorts of protests will play out, although there has been some discussion (it's hard to tell whether they are serious or merely tongue-in-cheek) on the group's mailing list of singing a rendition of 'Love Train' while encircling the lower reservoir.

As I've stated before, I have mixed feelings about the plans for Mt. Tabor, and reservations about the positions of both sides in the dispute. I haven't quite ascended the learning curve far enough to express a solid opinion either way.
