My Television Debut

This evening will bring with it my first direct experience of public access cable television, as I pay a visit to the studios of Portland Cable Access TV to participate in a program called A Growing Concern, described as a "live call-in program focusing on the media, environment and other significant community issues."

It airs from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM (I should be on sometime during the second half hour) on cable Channel 11, and we'll be discussing the efforts of the Portland Bill of Rights Defense Committee to pass a City Council resolution against the USA PATRIOT Act and in support of civil liberties.

I've dealt with print media before, both here in Portland and elsewhere, but this will be my first time dealing with television of any sort. I suppose, if nothing else, it will be good practice in the event I end up having to deal with more mainstream television media as I continue working on the resolution campaign.

Highlight of the evening, in terms of getting a true taste of cable access television, was the caller who asked about the connection between the USA PATRIOT Act and some new deal on Mitsubishis he had heard about.
