Leonard Versus BDS
In a profile (of sorts) of newly-elected Commissioner Randy Leonard's style, I found especially interesting this bit about the Bureau of Development Services:
Leonard said narrow concerns he has raised about the bureau's treatment of public-comment periods reflect wider problems with a culture of arrogance. He said during a council meeting last week that his questions reach into the bureau's highest levels.
"It's like they think the rest of the world is wrong, and they're right," Leonard said in a separate interview. "My desire is to make sure that people just don't feel like they are treated fairly, but that they are treated fairly.
Now, I'm not involved in such issues enough to know to what "treatment of public-comment periods" Leonard is referring, but the context would suggest there might be issues with the Bureau not taking them seriously enough. If this is indeed the case, then kudos to Commissioner Leonard for making a point to challenge that attitude.

What you see here is an example of "comment spam," in which someone, somewhere, is paid to visit the comments sections of weblogs, leave a "what a nice blog" comment or something similar, and put the URL of the business who hired them in the URL field.
Just so you know.
